|
|
I am wanting to construct a series of walls using Cloth with a PVC frame. The cloth will be painted to look like stone or wood. This will be useful in doing castle battles and just general buildings for quests. Since they are made from cloth and a frame it will be light and easy to move and transport.
Who is willing to help me construct this? |

Howdy.
Have you considered using painters drop cloth from Lowes or something? You can get huge canvases for relatively cheap, and the stuff is rugged enough to work for this sort of thing.
And I'll help. |

Brilliant minds think alike.
Are they going to be sort of "staked" into the ground to stand, or were you going to build supports? |

Steaks would be good, that way you can roll them up easily when not in use.
If you need some pipe, I can pick some up one day.
Do you need it the weekend of the 3rd? _________________ Member of the Board of Directors - Credit Keeper.

I was thinking PVC with wooden stakes driven into the ground then inserted into the PVC. I was going to sew a channel down the length of the cloth for the top then it be held to the sides with cord and eyelets.
BTW, great minds think for themselves |

My only concern is wind if the stakes aren't enough support, but there's not a lot of wind in them thar hills.
Do you have a solution for cheaply painting the cloth? |

as much as i'd love to help, i have no transportation, but if you would be willing to bring it out sometime, you can count me in. As far as the stakes are concerned, i would guess that we could always make the stake long enough so they'll hold better, maybe two feet, depending on the size of the wall itself |

Something I have seen used to good effect is a portable hole. I have only seen them locally, so not sure if I just never noticed it before or if it goes by a different name elsewhere.
Its a 1' metal stake with a sharpened point. At the top, you weld a metal ring to it, as you do about 3-4" down from there. Pound it into the round, and set the bottom part of the wall pole into the rings.
I can take a picture of the one I have here if it would help. Pretty simple, makes a good holder for banners, armor stands, etc. If you made the wall with a PVC frame, and extended the bottom of the frame a bit to put in the holes, should work well in everything except high wind. Also saves you from harming the PVC frame by pounding it into the ground. _________________ Baron Omar al-Saqr (Amtgard)

Basicly, a long metal rod with a sharp end to pound into the ground. The two rings are just steel rings welded to the bar. Real simple. The whole thing is then painted to prevent rust. _________________ Baron Omar al-Saqr (Amtgard)

We can make them with rings of almost the exact diameter of the piping used to construct the walls to keep it solid. Although just making the stake fit up into the PVC would be a more direct, and probably more efficient solution. |

That way we woulden't have to worry about the harness being blocked by whatever is holding up the pipes.
One problem, what will we do if someone falls into it. (Someone will eventually) _________________ Member of the Board of Directors - Credit Keeper.
